An estimated 1000 people participated in the trail from all sorts of places including Auckland, Hamilton, Thames, Te Anau, Queenstown and even a couple of entries from Australia. As expected the majority of entries came from Methven, Christchurch and Ashburton and organisers were very happy to see that the lucky winner was a local – Paige Humm (aged 7) from Methven.

Over 30 scarecrows were located around the Methven township, themed to a Nursery Rhyme. A big thank you to all the local businesses and families who created a scarecrow for the trail.  It was obvious from the participation and great feedback we received that people appreciated the creativity and amazing effort put in to providing a wonderful trail. There were some tricky scarecrows for people to find and guess but 49 entries did manage to get all 33 characters correct and over 40% of the entry forms were returned.

The most popular scarecrow was Jack and Jill, created by Cheryl Irwin & Jean Markillie who receive a generous restaurant voucher donated by Brinkley Resort.

The next most popular creations were Incy Wincy Spider (Mount Hutt Motels), The Muffin Man (i-Site), Peter, Peter, Pumpkin Eater (Debbie Lamont), Ride a Cock Horse (Forest Lodge), Sing a Song of Sixpence (Café Primo) and The Gingerbread Man  made by Methven Preschool.

Methven Preschool is the recipient of the proceeds from this year’s Scarecrow Trail and will receive $1505 thanks to the over 300 Trail Maps printed by Professionals Real Estate and sold by the wonderful i-SITE Visitor Centre staff.
