This month’s exhibition at the Methven Heritage Centre features local artist Marilyn Meadows. Marilyn’s "Natural New Zealand" exhibition is inspired by the bush and birdlife of New Zealand. The exhibition features a range of prints, acrylics, crayons and oils.

Marilyn was born and bought up in Westport where she was encouraged with art as a small child. Given many paints, brushes, pencils and papers she enjoyed art immensely which led to her studying art for three years at school.

Having developed a real love of art, in her early twenties Marilyn taught unemployed teenagers art for a few years before going to work for the Labour Department. She was the first tutor for the Buller Rural Education programme in Westport and taught there for several years.

After taking a long break from work after having children Marilyn then started up her own private studio. Following this she tutored at the Aoraki Polytechnic for eight years before retirement.

Now Marilyn teaches in her own private studio at Mount Hutt, and her passion for colour and watching nature show through in her work.

The opening night for ‘Natural New Zealand’ by Marilyn Meadows is on Friday 8th March, from 6pm-7pm.

Gallery open daily 10am - 5pm week days and 10am - 3pm weekends.
