Summer School registrations open
20/11/09
Methven Summer School is taking registrations now for its 2010 programme which is being held from Monday 11th to Friday 15th January 2010.
‘We’re proud to offer a wide variety in the 2010 programme with classes ranging from multi-sport and kayaking to make-up for the over 60’s, homebrew and sausage making to silver jewellery making and solar etching,’ says Christine Allan, event manager. ‘Methven Summer School is all about having fun and learning something new from the best tutors we can secure.’
New this year is Introduction to Multi Sport/Kayaking which aims to get students through their grade two kayak certificate which is required for entering multi-sport events. The week long course will be based at Methven Resort and will include pool sessions, flat water and river sessions as well as nutrition, training programmes, equipment and bike setup and technique. This will set anyone looking to get into this exciting sport well on their way.
Carla Watson of Imprint Design will run a workshop on Screen Printing on Fabric. Carla works closely with New Zealand designers and specialises in printing onto hosiery. This workshop offers enormous opportunity for participants to personalise clothing, homewares or create fabric art learning from a very talented textile artist who believes that beginners can achieve professional results in this workshop. Silver Jewellery Making is another new course this year and the three day course will provide a chance to make up to three unique pieces under the tutelage of Brian Adam. Ali Brown returns with flax weaving and floral design moves up a step from a demonstration last year to a hands-on class this year.
There are six arts courses to choose from including children’s story illustrations, pastels, watercolours, oils and acrylics as well as printmaking with Jo Ogier. Jo’s course combines art and solar etching techniques to make multi coloured prints. Cultivating Your Creativity completes the arts programme.
There is plenty for the guys this year as well with Nik Mavromatis showing how to make Gourmet Sausages, and Kirsten Taylor teaching the Art of Homebrew. The kitchen finishes off with Gluten Free Cooking with Emily Cross. Both cheesemaking courses are already full.
A change of fishing tutor this year sees Chappie Chapman on the end of the fly rod and there are still a few places left on Kevin Smith’s advanced golf course while the beginners and Intermediate courses are already full. People wanting to learn the do’s and don’ts of the fairway can do so in the new Have–a-Go Golf courses.
Don’t delay as the early bird registrations close 27 November and classes are starting to fill up. For information on all the classes available and to register for courses go to www.methvensummerschool.co.nz, or call 0800 12 4636.
