The staff at the Brown Pub in Methven have always suspected that they’re operating a damn fine establishment, but now it’s been confirmed with the pub in the running to be crowned the best in the New Zealand! The 2009 HANZ Awards for Excellence nominees in the Best Country Hotel Category have just been announced and the Brown Pub has been short listed as a national finalist. The Lion Nathan Awards for Excellence Ceremony is a swanky black tie affair up in the North Island (we’ll probably have to dust off the swanny and wipe down the gummies, but we’ll be there in full force!) to be held on Thursday 1st October and it’s shaping up to be a big night at The Brown, where the awards will be televised live and staff and locals will possibly share the odd celebratory ale or two.

The Brown Pub would like to extend a big huge thank you to all of its regular local patrons who truly make the Brown what it is – a fun and vibrant place to while away an hour or two while sharing a laugh with whoever else has popped in to say hi. What truly makes a pub great fun is the people you meet while you’re there and it’s thanks to the local Methven community that the pub has the friendly atmosphere that it does. Our little town changes so much across the seasons but the one thing that remains constant is the amazing community spirit that exists here. The staff and management of the Brown Pub are very proud to be nominated as New Zealand’s Best Country Hotel, but nothing could make them more proud than calling themselves Methven locals! So once again, thank you to everyone out there who helps us make the Brown what it is, and we hope to see you around the place sometime soon.
