Aspiring film makers will get the chance to make the most of the superb snow conditions on Mt Hutt this season, as entries open for this year’s Big Mountain Film Competition.
Registration packs are now available and organisers are anticipating stiff competition with a prize pool of season passes, school credits and gear worth thousands of dollars up for grabs.
This year film teams need to pre-register by August 30 (new extended date), with actual films due in on September 11.
Competitors must produce a three minute movie shot on Mt Hutt this season and can enter either the “Random Challenge” (where their film must include three mystery objects), or “Skiing and Boarding Action” sections.
The event is being run as a charity fundraiser for the Methven Heritage Project, currently refurbishing the Mt Hutt Memorial Hall, and building the NZ Alpine and Agriculture Encounter and NZ Snow Heritage Collection in Methven.
Heritage Project Manager Roxane Gajadhar says the competition is an opportunity not to be missed. “If last year was anything to go by, audiences at the awards night won’t be disappointed.
“The judges were wowed by the diversity and skill, demonstrated - not to mention a good dose of humour.
“We’re thrilled Mt Hutt has taken on the challenge again this year and are supplying such an awesome prize pool. It’s a great chance for film makers to get out there and have some fun on the Big Mountain this winter!”
Last year’s overall winner (and Family Random Challenge winner) “Don’t Feed the Keas” can be viewed on the Mt Hutt website www.nzski.com. Competition entry forms are also available online or from Guest Services at Mt Hutt.
