Methven Heliski, a backcountry skiing and riding operator won the Supreme Award at the Ashburton District Tourism Awards gala dinner held at Ashburton Trust Event Centre last night.

Methven Heliski, a backcountry skiing and riding operator won the Supreme Award at the Ashburton District Tourism Awards gala dinner held at Ashburton Trust Event Centre last night.

The business, established in 1986, showed dedication to educating the public in mountain safety while providing guests with the most unique personal alpine adventures in New Zealand.

The Supreme Award winner was chosen from the winners of six categories, five of which were Methven region businesses:

Visitor Activity Award Winner: Methven Heliski
Backpacker Accommodation Award Winner: Pinedale Backpacker Lodge
Guest & Hosted Accommodation Award Winner: Quickenberry Guesthouse
Holiday Park Accommodation Award Winner: Rakaia River Holiday Park
Self Contained & Serviced Accommodation Award Winner:         Brinkley Resort
Hotel Accommodation Award Winner: Terrace Downs

 


 
 

 

As part of the supreme prize, Methven Heliski’s owners took home a prize package valued at $4,000 including a domestic travel package and Qualmark license and joining fees paid for 12 months, while category winners also received a prize package along with a certificate and a trophy. All winners earned the right to use the winning logos in their marketing for two years.

The three industry judges were:

• Tom Butler – Owner, Grassmere Lodge
