Not exactly, but last Monday the hedge on Racecourse Road “bit the dust”. Blackwells were in there with all their heavy machinery and by Wednesday most of the hedge was gone.

Pete Woods from Skitime was a bit apprehensive at first when there was talk about the hedge coming down but last weekend he could be heard uttering “Amazing Space” looking out at his now near perfect view “what a great day”. Skitime Restaurant now has one of the best views in town, check it out with a drink on the verandah, or the view from inside is just as good.

On a drive down Racecourse Road on Tuesday morning, it was grey and overcast but I too was amazed at the view, of course there are the awesome mountains to look at but even the racecourse looks great, and the space is amazing.

On speaking to a few residents on the street Trevor Brunton was thrilled, “I’ve been waiting 21 years for this and as far as the Norwest goes I’m happy to put up with a bit of wind for the awesome view”, fellow resident Kristy Thomas was pleased with her “uninterrupted views” and watching the horses training in the morning was better than looking at the hedge, the nor’wests not a bother either. Can you imagine how much safer it will be when winter finally hits and the snow and ice comes, Racecourse Road will actually thaw out.

Methven Trotting Club Inc has been responsible for the change in zoning with 11.6 hectares being changed from rural A land to residential. This site has been approved for internal roads, walkways and reserves via entrance on Racecourse Rd. We look forward to bringing you updates on the changes happening on Racecourse Rd.
