A little over an hours drive from Christchurch International Airport, Porters Ski Area is accessed via the Great Alpine Highway which takes in some amazing views as it crosses the Canterbury Plains to the Southern Alps.

Laid-back, affordable and home to two of NZ's legendary runs, Porters is the closest ski field to Christchurch and has a mercifully short access road, easily the least intimidating in Canterbury.

Porters’ learner facilities are some of the best around – perfect for the whole family. A Ski Mat carpet-lift makes progression for beginners so easy, and the platter lift provides one of the best intermediate slopes for progression in the country. For the more advanced skiers and boarders, two of NZ’s legendary runs, Bluff Face and Big Mama provide the perfect challenge.

It all starts with snow. Continued investment in snowmaking, snow-fencing and grooming means quality snow conditions are ready when you are.

The Porters Snow Sports School is second-to-none – with a wide range of international and local instructors ready to make serious improvements to your skiing or boarding.

The Porters rental department is fully equipped with a large range of the very best and newest carving skis, boots and snowboard gear for you to try out. Knowledgeable technicians constantly tune all Porters gear, so you get the best experience possible.

Recently built, the Porters café and bar provides seating for 120. It's modern, provides superb views out over the Torlesse Range, and crucially, is now at car park level. Delicious home-style cooking and superb coffee make it the perfect spot to re-charge your batteries during a busy day skiing.

This year, we have a busy calendar of events on the go! Some new, some well established, but all are FUN! With something for the whole family to enjoy, get on up here this season and challenge yourself and your friends on the snow.

Let's face it, sometimes change is nice! If you're based in Methven, we're only a short hours drive away. Here at Porters we have some fantastic terrain, friendly faces, and spectacular views, plus because we're so close, it's all here for you to enjoy.

Porters opens 24th June 2011, with lifts operating from 9am to 4pm daily.
