Mt Cheeseman has a friendly relaxed culture that promotes a fun, family environment in an alpine setting.

Cheeseman is the second closest ski area to Christchurch and is just one hours drive from Methven via the Lake Lyndon Road. The ski area is a sunny east to south east basin with open rolling terrain.

With great beginner, intermediate and advanced trails, Cheeseman is perfect for learners and all the family. For adventurers looking for untracked trails and off-piste experiences Mt Cockayne offers challenging powder skiing and fantastic views of the Craigieburn Range.

Two T Bars give easy access to well groomed slopes and the Learners Tow is located right beside the brand new purpose built Day Lodge which offers a warm, friendly environment with large open decks to enjoy the spectacular alpine views. A wide range of hot food, snacks and beverages are available from the licensed Cockayne Cafe.

A ski school with top-class Swiss instructors and a full range of hire equipment including ski tuning and ski repairs are available on mountain. Several events take place each year at the ski area and their ski packages (including accommodation, meals per day, ski or board instruction and lift passes) are very popular.

You can choose to stay in accommodation up on the mountain in Snowline Lodge or alternatively in Forest Lodge, nestled in the beech forest and located half way along the access road.

Snowline Lodge and its facilities are the focus of Cheeseman Ski Area. In the morning, ski to the main T-Bar – a great way to start the day without any hassle. Snowline Lodge accommodates up to 68 guests, and facilities include a large lounge for socialising, a drying room and 4 & 6 bed shared bunkrooms. There is a well stocked cafe selling snacks, beverages, wine and beer. All meals are catered for those on ski holidays and guests help with a few light duties (i.e. tidying-up, dishes, meal preparation).

Modern and well appointed, Forest Lodge is nestled amongst the natural beech forest, with a skating rink nearby. Bunkroom-style shared accommodation for up to 38 guests (6 beds per room). Good bathroom facilities, drying room and large guest lounge make Forest Lodge a comfortable stopover on your travels. Guests staying at Forest Lodge Backpackers need to bring their own sleeping bag and food. Forest Lodge is available year round for hire & during the winter months has a unique ice skating rink located nearby (subject to weather).
