Mountain Thunder - Easter Saturday 7 April 2012
Methven’s town centre will turn into a motorcycle race track on Easter Saturday for the annual Mountain Thunder Motorcycle Race.
Travelling at speeds up to 200kms/hr around Methven are motorcycle classes from the Classics right through to Formula One. Spectators can get up close, feel the noise, taste the speed and all from behind the safety of bales and security fencing around the 1km Spring Lynne Motorcycle circuit.
Easter Saturday is a fun filled day for children of all ages, bursting with colour, spectacle, noise and excitement. The streets are bustling with stalls packed with food and handy goodies as well as carnival activities.
Mountain Thunder is hosted by the Methven Lions Club who have joined with Classic Action Motorcycle Sport (CAMS) from Christchurch to stage the event. Any profits made from the event go back into the local community.
Gates open at 9am, so make sure you get the prime spot by booking your Methven accommodation now.

Race Day
Entry tickets (full day passes) are sold at the gate on the day.

There will be a variety of stalls at Mountain Thunder, covering everything from food and drinks to crafts and clothing, along with carnival rides, bouncy castles and mini moto cross. Anyone wishing to fundraise or hold a stall at this fantastic Methven Lions event, which attracts around 5,000 people, should contact Rachel Moore on info@mountainthunder.co.nz or 0274 519 117.
Things you should know:
- Spectators are welcome to come and go during the day.
- Motorcycle Racing is Dangerous. Spectators attending Mountain Thunder do so entirely at their own risk.
- Mountain Thunder and the motorcycle racing will go ahead rain or shine.
- First Aid assistance will be available around the Spring Lynne Motorcycle circuit.
- Please note that there is an alcohol ban in the Methven town centre for the duration of the Motorcycle race.
- Animals are not permitted into the event, for both their safety and the riders.
- Ear plugs are advisable if you are sensitive to noise. Additional ear plugs will be available on the day.
