Celebrating its 23rd anniversary this year, Methven Heliski is internationally renowned as the gateway to an incredible range of terrain in the central Southern Alps, as well as the enthusiasm and commitment of its guiding team. Alpine Guides New Zealand is the oldest guiding team in New Zealand, with plenty of safety records to testify to their skills and set any fears at bay.

Team leader is Director Kevin Boekholt who’s been at the heart of this heliski company – the busiest in New Zealand – from day one. Kevin is as experienced as they come, an internationally qualified guide, and works with the world’s biggest heliski company CMH based in Canada in shoulder seasons, as well as running his own international heliski operation Shinsetsu out of Canada, Japan and Greenland.
Described by locals as an “exceptional operation”, Methven Heliski is a busy and growing company with lots of dedicated clients who adore Kevin, even following him around the world throughout the year. His return clientele is about 40 per cent he says, and the US Burton team is a regular visitor to shoot pro riders in action on the steep and challenging slopes in this region.
Guides lead skilfully through the diverse range of terrain features in this vast Methven area.
“We're very lucky to have the Arrowsmith range,” Kevin says. “They’re east of the Main Divide and sheltered but their height means they catch snow from every winter storm. There are also lots of glaciers, so we have permanent snow and ice. It’s very user-friendly terrain.”
Methven Heliski explores the Arrowsmith and Ragged ranges where terrain features big, heavily glaciated peaks and long runs.
