With over 2,000 beds available in the Methven Mt Hutt region, there are plenty of accommodation options for those wanting to visit the region all year round. Methven accommodation options range from hotel resorts, luxury B&Bs and motels to backpackers and camping grounds. Note: Mt Hutt Ski Area and the majority of ski fields in the Canterbury region do not offer on-mountain accommodation; Methven is the accommodation base for your ski holiday.

Please note that the Methven region has not been affected by the earthquakes that have struck the Christchurch region and local businesses are open and operating as normal.

The above categories are based on Qualmark, New Zealand tourism's official mark of quality.

All New Zealand accommodation and tourism businesses that carry the Qualmark symbol have been independently assessed as professional and trustworthy, so you can book and buy with confidence.

Methven Backpackers - Shared accommodation in a hostel or lodge, with an emphasis on the active travelling experience, facilitating cultural and social interaction for like-minded guests. Facilities like bathrooms, lounges and laundries are usually shared. Backpacker properties range from small converted houses to large hotel-like establishments.

Methven Guest & Hosted  - Bed & breakfasts, farmstays and home stays, boutique lodges or “character" accommodation with an emphasis on personal interaction between the guest and the host. Cooking facilities are not usually provided. Breakfasts are a feature and are usually part of an all-inclusive tariff. Some B&B properties may offer other meals on request.

Methven Holiday Homes - Your 'home away from home' - part of the great Kiwi holiday experience and perfect for the family ski holiday.

Methven Holiday Parks - Camping grounds and motor camps, often with cabins and self contained unit accommodation. All properties provide communal kitchens, toilets, showers and laundries and a variety of additional features. Holiday Park accommodation choices may include camp and motor home sites, basic cabins to motel units, or bunk rooms for groups.

Methven Hotels - Hotel properties feature a licensed restaurant and bar, charge-back facilities, and on-site management at all times. All hotel rooms have tea and coffee-making facilities. Breakfast is provided whether in a restaurant or breakfast room, or via room service. Some hotels have conference and banqueting facilities.

Methven Self Contained and Serviced - Motels, motor lodges, motor inns, motel apartments and serviced apartments. Units are serviced daily or as otherwise agreed with the guest, and are self-contained providing at least tea and coffee-making facilities and a private or ensuite bathroom.


New Zealand Public Holidays and School Terms

It is not always essential to pre book your Methven Mount Hutt region accommodation but it certainly makes life a lot easier and will ensure that you can stay in the most suitable type of accommodation. We strongly encourage you to book your accommodation in advance during the school holidays (especially during winter when Mt Hutt Ski Area is open) and when key Methven Mt Hutt region events are taking place.
